Happy Tuesday!
This fine Sunday, I was pleased as punch to attend Trell Thomas’s To Be Celebrated Brunch!
An extension of his Black Excellence Brunch, the To Be Celebrated Brunch acknowledges people behind the powerhouses we see. The event honored Niecy Nash’s better half, Jessica Betts, Tabitha Brown’s Glam Team, SZA and Dojacat’s choreographer Cortland, and Kyla Pratt’s mom. As always, it was a beautiful display of love.
Thomas patterns his events after Sunday dinners he enjoyed in his hometown of South Carolina. The goal of the brunch is to create a supportive environment where people feel celebrated and seen.
One overwhelming theme in all the acceptance speeches was about how tough the entertainment industry can be. We have become so conditioned to accept harsh and unfair treatment that we become numb to it. I still deal with my fair share of BULL during Fashion month. The To Be Celebrated brunch was the refresh I didn’t know I needed. We are the BOMB and we deserve to feel that way, all the time!
For the event, I shopped my closet (and plan to do so for a lot of upcoming events)! I wore a dress from Z Crave, a vintage trench, and snake boots.
I had fun interviewing some of the guests, including Vernon Francois, Niecy Nash, and Tabitha Brown. I also always adore seeing friends like Joey Harris and Kendall Kendall.
So I’m back in LA to bask in the sunshine and the light of our amazing community. I have a lot of events this week, stay tuned for the recaps here and on the Gram (and Maybe Tik Tok!).
