Hey Hey!
So Wednesdays are for traditional Bomb Life 101’s!
Yesterday I had the distinct pleasure of sitting down and chatting with Nigerian singer and songwriter Tiwa Savage! Though she is known for her infectiously vibrant music and fashion, she’s also been in the news quite a bit because of a very public break up with her ex manager and former husband Tunji Balogun aka ‘Tee Billz’.
Even though her separation has been surrounded by drama and confusion, Tiwa was carefree, happy, and hopeful. When asked about the situation, she said no comment, pledging to never discuss her private life in a public forum again.
I could do nothing but respect her stance. Bad things happen to good people allll the time. Just yesterday, I had a run in with a correspondent. And though my fingers were itching to write a tweet or Snapchat my thoughts, I stayed quiet. I cried about it to my mom and my mentor, two people who know me, care about me, and can offer a good perspective on things. After letting it all out, I took a deep breathe and kept it moving.
It’s human to want to vent! But people with ill intentions can twist your words and blow the whole situation out of proportion.
Like Tiwa, I’ve learned not to write or say anything out of anger in a public place. Thoughts and actions can be extreme when fueled by emotion, and you honestly might say something you 1. don’t mean or 2. will later regret.
We should always look at bad situations as blessings in disguise. Though someone may hurt or betray us, we can say, “Thank GOD they’re not around anymore!” And after the pain subsides, you can continue to shine.
Shine on…
Love and Light!
