A few weeks ago, I received an e-mail from a PR company, requesting my attendance at VH1’s Hip Hop Honors. They wanted to commission my services to promote the show on social media and in exchange I would get tickets to attend a live taping. I said sure!
After fulfilling my social media duties, I took a car uptown. The woman who coordinated everything handed me two tickets, and informed me that they were general admission, meaning that I’d have to wait on a long line and that seats were first come, first serve. Not sure if you can tell but these Giuseppe Zanotti sandals are not made for waiting, walking, or standing! I waited in line for a bit, then pictured a night of misery, so decided to hand my tickets to two gentleman outside (which made their night) and make my way back home.
To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. As I stood in the general admission line for those two-five minutes, I saw my colleagues whisking by me, headed straight to their seats. People I consider friends were posing on the pink carpet. And I was all gussied up, waiting on line to get in.
Life has a way of checking you and letting you know: you’re not there yet. There are situations that will humble you. Only allow yourself a short moment to feel down, then get fired up to work harder and contribute more to the world so that you get your seat at the table.
I reasoned to myself that since I was getting home nice and early (!) I could continue to wake up at 5am and exercise, strategize, read, and work (read about my new routine here). Between you and I, I woke up at 5:30, then took a nap between 7:30 and 8! This early bird stuff takes some getting used to:) But when I finally made it to my computer, I realized that noone from my staff had written up the red carpet for the awards. And I remembered what got me here…writing about celebs and red carpets and style before attending one of these events was even a notion! So you know what I did? I got to work.
And I will continue to work and do my thing until I get some respeck on my name.
Love + Light!
*I’m wearing a suede lace up mini dress from Intermix I got months ago! It couldn’t even zip up when I first bought it, but look at GOD. I accessorized with Giuseppe Zanotti Harmony sandals, which might be one of the most uncomfortable pairs of shoes I own. Shout out to @Live_N_Loc for the hair and Camara Aunique for the makeup.
