Claire’s Life: Covering the Red Carpet at the NAACP Image Awards in Blue David Koma and Feathered YSL Sandals + Rules for Red Carpet Dressing

Imagine this: You get a last minute booking across the country, so leave the West Coast at 1am, land on the East Coast at 9am, take a quick nap, THEN host an evening event. THEN you wake up at 5am the following day after getting 3 hours of sleep, travel back across the country, deal with delays and running for your connecting flight, land, eat and change in an hour, then go to ask celebs questions on the red carpet of a star studded event. That was the Bomb Life right before the 2025 NAACP Image Awards.

Then imagine, after accomplishing this Herculean task that is NOT for the faint of heart, showing up, and not blanking while asking people questions…..all commenters can say is how your hair, makeup, and dress are a mess. Welcome to my world.

I run a business. I am a journalist. I am also Caribbean and if I get booked, I’m going. I went from behind the scenes to on the scene and realize a certain caliber is expected of me, but you don’t see the work, just the finished product which might sometimes be a bit frazzled because life be life-in!

All that to say, y’all know I can be beat, y’all know I can get glam, and now y’all are getting a little tiny taste of my hustle.

Don’t knock it! And Enjoy:

Also a few notes if you are frazzled and running late/last minute and DON’T have time to get glam or find a look:

  1. Learn how to do your makeup. When in doubt, go for clean skin, fluffy lashes, and a statement lip.
  2. Wear a hairstyle that you can handle. I thought my messy updo would work, but it was giving birds nest. I tried to have my hairstylist from the night before do a low pony, but it wasn’t working. Believe me, I tried to get a look that would transition easily, but it wasn’t in the cards.
  3. When in doubt with a red carpet look, stick to neutrals like black, white, or metallics.

You live, you learn!
