Alright, guys!
So The Bomb Life is taking a new turn. As I mentioned here, I’m initiating a new Ask Claire section, and I’ll most likely have Ask Claire make up the majority of the posts moving forward!
I kinda sorta like Outfit Posts, but it’s not really ‘me’, n’a mean? So I’ll just intersperse images of my most recent outfits in betwixt interesting, elucidating advice. Sound good?
Our first Ask Claire question comes from Suzie, who types, “I am woman in my early 30’s, it is too late for me to make a transition into the world of fashion? Like starting with an internship.”
I say it’s never too late to pursue your dreams!
When I began my internship at Paris Vogue, I was 28-years-old. Not in my early thirties, but I was old enough to have had a full time job with a regular salary and an office (!). The hardest thing about starting an internship at an older age is adjusting to a meager lifestyle. I made very little as an intern, and it was hard to go from being able to shop, eat, and spend freely to being on a MAJOR BUDGET.

This was me before. Note my busted Marc by Marc Jacobs purse. LOL
Another thing you have to adjust to: subordination. My boss at Paris Vogue was younger than me. And though I had WAY more experience than her, she called the shots. I had to eat a big old slice of humble pie.

There’s that awful purse again.
That said, the sacrifice was well worth it. Yes, I spent a couple years living like a pauper, but I now live like a QUEEN. Yassss! And I make way more than I did at the full time job that just wasn’t right for me.
So I say go for it. Prepare yourself mentally for that sacrifice, but also know that sometimes things get worse before they get a million times better.

ALSO, if you intern, be the best dern intern ever. Though French culture is different from American (they’re more about enjoying life vs. working all the time), I brought that American spirit to my job! I was there early and stayed late. I worked through lunch even though everyone looked at me like I was crazy. I did the grunt work, the jobs that noone wanted to do, and I did them well. I was always smiling and happy, came to work in the best threads I had. You will be hungry, so act hungry, like there’s nowhere else you’d rather be. And even if you don’t get a job at the end, you will gain a great experience that will help you in achieving your ultimate goal.
Life is too short to not live the life you want.

Stay tuned for more from my Ask Claire column!
This is fun, right?
*Outfit details: Theory Blazer, Random Dress I’m wearing as a shirt, Victoria’s Secret Skirt, Versace Medusa Sandals, Moschino Good Girl Belt, Saint Laurent Gold Clutch. All of which I would’ve never been able to afford had I stayed chugging along at my 9-5. Go for it, Suzie!!
