What Now? What to Do in the Wake of the Untimely Deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile

This past week has been absolutely awful in terms of Civil Rights and the quest for racial equality and unity in the United States. Two innocent black men, Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, were killed by the cops within a day of each other; then a Dallas sniper killed five cops.

While we enlisted a black out on Fashion Bomb Daily, took a day of silence, and hashtagged #BlackLivesMatter, I can say that I personally felt powerless, like: what do I do? I googled around and found Go Fund Me pages for Alton Sterling and Philando Castile’s families; sure I donated, but money can’t bring them back to life or reverse the damage their untimely deaths have caused. Even marching seems useless.

A few Fashion Bomb readers suggested we withhold the black dollar from large business like Target and Kroger. I’m down for the cause! A few other suggested throwing more support behind black business, which we have done and will continue to do.

As long as I can use my platform and influence to get a dialogue going, I guess that’s a start, though I am a strong advocate of Gun Control, and think our Presidential Candidates should be held accountable. I mean seriously, what are good arguments against outlawing guns?
