The Bomb Hotel: Ampeer Residences in Washington, D.C. + Discovering Eleanor “Cissy” Patterson

Happy 1st of the Month!
As I type, I am in Washington Dulles airport, waiting to go back to New York. My event planner Steven and I have spent the past two days looking at venues for our next Cocktails with Claire, D.C. (the new name will be Conversations with Claire; more on that later). At any rate, because we were going to be in good old District of Columbia, we decided to stay at a newly refurbished luxury hotel and apartment building called Ampeer Residences.

Steeped in history, the mansion, located at Dupont Cicle, was once the home of Eleanor “Cissy” Patterson, a journalist and author who was one of the first women to head a major daily newspaper, the Washington Times Herald.

A consummate socialite, she was known for her exuberant parties, loved a good cocktail, and like me, enjoyed the finer things in life. In her obituary, it says, “Mrs. Patterson loved luxury. She was the queen of elegance. Her DuPont Circle mansion was just one of her showplaces.”

Perhaps our similarities are part of the reason why I felt her presence as I roamed the spectacularly fabulous and refurbished halls, or why I myself felt right at home in the fabulous foyer, decorated with an abstract canvas, modern art, and orchids.

Upstairs, you can relax in the ballroom, kick back in the kitchen, or do work in the library. The beautiful environs, friendly staff, and natural light create the perfect ambiance for living and creating in style.

Cissy Patterson was an enterprising woman of her day, helming a publishing house and writing two books–all while living her best life. May we all aspire to follow a similar path.

In the meantime, you can get a feel for her ‘style de vie’ at Ampeer. Learn more at AmpeerResidences.com and tell ’em I sent you.
Love & Light,

*Ampeer Residences are great for longer term stays as well. Each apartment comes fully furnished and is equipped with a washer/dryer, cable TV, and other amenities. The mansion is also well situated; we were able to get to most venues within 5-10 minutes! It’s a must stay.

**Mark your calendars for Conversations with Claire. We visited loads of great venues, and I think we found the perfect one:) Until then, know that the date is locked in for Saturday, March 24th. Get your tickets at CWCDMV.eventbrite.com.
