The Bomb Life has been that crazy that I’m just sitting down to recount my eventful Paris fashion week!
I am actually typing while overlooking the National Harbor in DC. Yes, I flew straight from Paris to the DMV area for a booking. After a quick trip in a few weeks, I might be officially done with travel for the year! At any rate, Paris was fabulous!
I always decide to go to Paris last minute. Like the week prior. I know I should be better organized, and promise, the next few months will be dedicated to growing the Claire Sulmers team. In the meantime, I’m flying by the seat of my pants, saying ‘no’ to fear and ‘heck yeah’ to adventure. Besides, Paris is ALWAYS a good idea!
I was excited to see so many of my fellow black female content creators like @theyusufs @highlowluxxe @monroesteele @marie.Bobbi @spiritedpursuit @torontoshay @karenbritchick and @aissatatdiallo also going for it and going to Paris for Fashion Week.
As I mentioned in my speech at Al Sharpton and National Action Network’s Triumph awards (more on that later), while the States have made progress in being more diverse and inclusive with black creators and black owned media outlets, the rest of the world has a ways to catch up. But don’t be discouraged. By simply showing up, you make your presence felt, and you never know what opportunities will open themselves to you once you’re there.
Even though I got organized at the 11th hour, I was still able to attend many shows including Stella McCartney, Elie Saab, Enfants Riches Deprimes, Akris, and Christian Wijnants. I met many new people, caught up with old friends, and ate LOTS of yummy food (haha).
So next season, I want to see all y’all in Paris. Representing black excellence, black girl magic and showing the world the beauty of diversity. Even though the subject seems tired, I won’t stop talking about it until we’re all there, in all the shows, getting equal access. We’re all created equal, right?
