Claire’s Life: Attending the Premiere of Thoughts of a Colored Man With Kandi, Mona Scott Young, and More, Wearing Misa Hylton x Macys

Earlier this week, I was thrilled to attend the Premiere of a new Broadway show, Thoughts of a Colored Man, Presented by Kandi. The play explores the multidimensionality of black men, showcasing their passion , wisdom, luck, conflict, and pride through an Allstar cast that includes Tristan Wilds, Luke James, Da Vinchi, Forest McClendon, Dyllon Burnside, Bryan Terrell Clark, Garrett Turner, Bjorn Deputy, and Essau Pritchett.

In this play, black men are seen beyond the strong stereotypes one might see on TV or in movies. In the Thoughts of a Colored Man, African-American men are allowed to be tender, pensive, complicated, and loving.

In addition to featuring rousing storytelling, Luke James shows off his vocals with a series of soul stirring songs that will bring you to your feet.

Kandi produced the play, so invited me, Mona Scott Young, Sidra Smith, and many more to enjoy the performance.

After, we all grabbed dinner at Redeye Grill, and toasted to The Bomb Life!

I honestly did not know what to wear, so was happy when Misa Hylton sent me this pretty purple dress and matching jacket from her collection with Macys:

You know what they say about Great Minds! Mona Scott also wore a piece from Misa’s collection, while Kandi sizzled in red Jovani.

Thoughts of a Colored Man, unlike other plays I’ve seen about the black experience on Broadway, pushes the conversation forward, and humanizes a portion of society that is frequently villainized and misunderstood.

Definitely support! Get your tickets here.

Tell them I sent you.
