So last night, Kelley, Ty, and I met to discuss the next Cocktails with Claire x Ty Hunter (it’s going down in New York, and we’re thinking of May 14th–would you guys come to a Mother’s Day event?!?).
Anyhoo, Kelley invited the team to a CFDA x Lexus event that evening. I heard CFDA and got excited and decided to do it up with makeup by Loso and a ‘Queen of the Night’ dress by Shop Eshe (gifted to me by a fabulous FBD reader–thank you!).
At any rate, any time I get dressed up, I figure it’s waste if I don’t document it! So I called Marta McAdams to do what she does best.
I was minding my business, twirling by the pink blossoms on Horatio street, when a group of French kids and adults walked by. Believe it or not, I’m shy…and this dress was definitely more on the racy side, so I calmed down my twirling a bit to let them walk by. One French boy said, “Il fait un shooting,” which was accurate (He said, “They’re doing a photo shoot.” Very observant). Then at the very end, a French man remarked, “Trop Grosse.” French for ‘too fat.’ Oh yes he did.
I stopped for a second and said, “Trop Grosse? Vraiment?” (Too fat, really?) but he had already meandered along his way, with his very unimpressive wife giggling beside him. And while I tried to feel good about myself (and did receive loads of lurve on the ‘Gram, thank you!!), I couldn’t shake his comment, hence this essay.
Of course I complained to Kelley and Ty, who said, “French people think all Americans are fat!” “Who cares what he thinks?”
But Lord knows, I knew that a roll or two was peaking out from the back of this number (it has an open back. I was really brave for wearing this!! LOL).
The damage has been done, the sting cannot be unstung. I am going for it and finally losing the weight I’ve been meaning to lose for ages. Giving myself 90 days and working out with a fabulous trainer (Rustin). We will document it all.
I know I should be above it all and say “lalala” along the way, but sometimes it takes a rude passerby to shake you to reality. NO I’m not fat given the American standard, but by Hollywood standards I’m damn near obese. And I AM moving to Los Angeles (ok the projected date is now this Fall because the summer is already too busy, booked, and blessed!). If I want to play ball and become more of a public figure, I gotta get (and keep) it tight!
