On Day 4 in Rio, we got tour guide Dalvi Goncalves (@DalviGoncalves) to take us to the famous Escadaria Selarón and to take a tour of a Favela.
Escadaria Selarón (also know as the Selaron Steps) is one of the most vibrant tourist attractions in Rio. Featuring colorful tile, the steps are best known in popular culture for making a cameo in Pharrell and Snoop Dogg’s ‘Beautiful’ Video.
Our tour group popped by the steps for a photo opp…
Got some street food…
Then headed to the Favela. A Favela is a poor community of houses, located in the hills.
This might be common sense, but you definitely shouldn’t head to a Favela on your own. We went with Dalvi, who is Brazilian, is a certified tour guide, and trained in the military!
After our pop by the Favela, we treated ourselves to dinner at Aprazível ( Rua Aprazível, 62 – Santa Teresa, Rio de Janeiro – RJ, 20241-270). Though Aprazivel is far and can get pricey, the food is absolutely delicious, and the views? Amazing.
I ordered the duck, while my sisters ordered the beef medallions. My friend Maxim got the chicken rice. Everything was YUMMY!
I’d definitely recommend visiting all the sites above.
Check ’em out and let me know what you think!
For the day, I did my interpretation of ‘not flashy’ in a metallic Norma Kamali sweatshirt and matching shorts.
While I wore Amina Abdul Jillil Coin Flats during the day, I switched into Givenchy silver sandals for night.
If I were venturing out in Rio alone, I probably wouldn’t have worn this! But with a soldier by my side, I felt comfortable;)
What do you think?
