Best of 2017: Writing my First Book, Working with Revolt, The Breakfast Club, and more

The year is winding down! In just a couple of days, we will be ringing in 2018 with confetti and popped bottles.
I thought it only fitting to countdown this year’s 5 highlights!
In no particular order:
1. Writing My First Book: The Bomb Life

Was I ready to write a book? Not really. But I knew that I wanted to write a lot of books in my lifetime, and that I had to start somewhere. Thus, The Bomb Life was born.

My tome, telling of my travails getting into fashion, gave way to book signings in Lord & Taylor, Conversations in London and Europe, and appearances on TV and radio.

I’m not done. I’m working on my 2nd book as I type, and I promise, it will be bomb. I learned a lot of lessons from writing the first–can’t wait to show you what’s next.

2. Working with Revolt

When I first graduated from college, I wanted to work in TV! I wanted to be a producer and tell stories with film. I couldn’t find a job in TV, so I started writing.

When Fashion Bomb TV started, I got a lot of flack. I’ve come a long way and Revolt showed me that I’m on the right track.

With Revolt, I attended the MTV awards, sat on Rolls Royce’s with DJ Mustard, and chit chatted with stars I know and love.

Here’s hoping 2018 will bring blockbuster videos with the potential to go viral.

3. Going on The Breakfast Club

I’ll admit it: I listen to the Breakfast Club religiously. They interview the most interesting subjects and I love the harmony of personalities in the room. Going on the Breakfast Club was a goal I had all year. And just before Cocktails with Claire New York, it happened.

I was slightly nervous, but felt prepared. I’m looking forward to going back!

4. Receiving HFR’s New Media Award

I’ve received quite a few awards in my day, but receiving HFR’s New Media award has a special place in my heart. Harlem’s Fashion Row is an authority on fashion for people of color, and always has the support of those I admire.

It was such an honor to give a speech in front of people I’ve looked up to for years, including Emil Wilbekin, Misa Hylton Brim, and Spike Lee! Spike Lee, y’all!

It was an experience I’ll never forget.

5. Interviewing Jada Pinkett Smith

Every year, I am left star struck by an encounter. Jada Pinkett Smith was one of the highlights of 2017.

She was smart, humble, and thoughtful. And though our interview was not recorded, here’s hoping we can continue to build and grow for 2018 and beyond!

That does it!
