Trinidad and Tobago is a delightful country, full of delicious food, beautiful sights, and lovely people!
I recently spent 10 days there, so feel pretty confident in giving you a few recommendations on where to go, what to do, and where to stay.
Read on for my thoughts!
1. Where to Stay
Though my crew and I were put up in the Carlton Savannah in Trinidad, most people we encountered recommended the Hyatt. Apparently the rooms are beautiful, they have a gorgeous pool, and customer service is on point!
While the Carlton hotel was nice enough, it lacked many amenities, bells, and whistles. The pool was subpar…though we made it look nice in the pix, it was typically dirty. The cabanas lining the side were full of dirty pillows. And there always seemed to be construction going on.
The restaurant never seemed to have any food. Service was slow. Again, the Carlton wasn’t the worst place I’ve ever stayed in my life, but it was nothing to write home about! Go ahead and Splurge on the Hyatt. If I find myself in Trinidad again, I’m going there.
*Where to Stay in Tobago
Though I was somewhat side eyeing Stonehaven Villas last year, I am all about StoneHaven this year, especially after briefly looking at the alternatives on the island.
StoneHaven has beautiful villas, gorgeous pools, and comfortable beds. Food can be hard to come by in Tobago, but they have a restaurant! And room service!
I’ll be honest and say that customer service wasn’t the bomb in Trinidad, nor was it on point in Tobago. We asked our maid to change our sheets at StoneHaven and she got an attitude! On our last day there, she wouldn’t accept our thanks or a tip. It was outrageous!
In fact, customer service is an issue island wide. We didn’t feel taken care of. But if you’re another race you might have more luck (just saying…)
2. Where to Eat
It seems Trinidad and Tobago is all about street food. Find a hook up for some Doubles for Breakfast; find a Bake N Shark or roti stand and do it up. If you want to step out while in Trinidad, I’d recommend Buzo (6 Warner St, Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago).
Yes, it’s an Italian restaurant, but I can say that it was by far the best restaurant food I had on the island.
If you go to Maracas beach, you have to have Bake and Shark from Richards! It’s basically fried bread with fried shark in it. Add pepper sauce, onions, lettuce, pineapples (!), or tomato to taste. It is DELISH.
What you’ll find in Trinidad is that you’ll eat a lot of fast food and food from stands. And be sure to check out Royal Castle or KFC. The chicken is flavorful and superior to that in the USA. Trust me.
3. What to Do
Aside from Carnival, Trinidad and Tobago is all about RNR. Go to Maracas beach, or relax by the pool.
My group and I really didn’t do much more than that, though we did step out one night in Tobago to a place called The Shade.
I’m not a club girl, but that place was FUN. They had great music, a good amount of space, and you can witness some local dance moves first hand;). It’s a must.
That’s about all I gleaned from my most recent trip to TNT. See a few more insights from my first trip here.
Do you have anything to add?
