Happy Monday!
I touched down home in LA for exactly 24 hours before I flew to Austin Texas to speak at SXSW with Mirror Digital and She Media.
I joined fellow industry pioneer Yvonne Guidry of Spoiled Latina and Sheila Marmon, Founder and CEO of Mirror Digital. Mirror Digital has built a reputation for connecting major brands with multicultural audiences, and it was inspiring to exchange perspectives with women who have also spent years building platforms that center culture and community.
We spoke a lot about mental health and setting boundaries. I had the opportunity to attend Essence Black Women in Hollywood, and while the event is always a must attend, I prioritized rest and being on point over peacocking on their high wattage red carpet. Yes, it’s fun to flex and network, but it’s not everything. And I just feel like sometimes rooms like those are so fake. Like, do you care about me when my Instagram is disabled? Are you there when I need you? Do I have real value to you? I don’t think the answer would be yes for many people in that room. But Mirror Digital came through and helped get us out of that situation, so they were honestly my priority. Go where people show that you matter!
As we talked, I reflected on the journey of Fashion Bomb Daily as we approach 20 years. When I started the site, I simply wanted to celebrate fashion, spotlight designers, and share the looks we loved. Over time, it grew into a global platform that highlights talent from around the world and opens doors for emerging creatives.
For me, longevity has meant staying true to the mission while continuing to grow, adapt, and invest in the next generation. It also means remembering to prioritize our health and well-being while pursuing our goals.
