So, I like school.
My Caribbean mother was a schoolteacher and always put a huge emphasis on education. She always made sure my brother and I went to the best academic institutions and we both went to Harvard!
So it should come as no surprise that I have lots of school spirit! Just a few weeks after giving the commencement speech at my High School, I went to my 20th college reunion at Harvard.
Harvard is a lot like what you may expect. Very brilliant people who use big words! But there are also people who know how to have a good time, are funny, vivacious, and fabulous, and my friend group fits the bill. We were all super excited to go back to the Yard and stomp through in all our glory!
We coordinated colors so our pix would be BOMB, and I brought my photographer Salvatore Demaio with me to capture the magic!
On day one, we wore lilac and/or purple to represent the royalty we are!
For the occasion, I wore a Norma Kamali Diane Dress in lilac, along with Christian Louboutin pumps, and my new baby: my Mini Kelly:
Isn’t she cute?
For the night, we chose gold and yellow because I think gold and yellow looks good on all melanated women!
I wore a dress by BridalBabes.co, a black owned line of bridesmaid and wedding gowns with curvy women in mind!
True story, the party that night called for a 90’s theme, and my friends and I were like, “Nah.” Lol. The party got rained out anyway, so it worked out for everyone!
Day 2, daytime, you know black people love an all white moment:
My dress was by Jacquemus. Y’all are gonna be seeing a lot of this bag lol.
For the evening on Day 2, we bet on blue.
It was really (really) cold that day, so I’m happy I packed a Blumarine dress and Schutz boots.
I’ll admit that on night one, I was too tired to hit the town! But day 2, I had my nap, so stopped by our class wide mixer and ended the night at the Spee.
On the last day of my action packed weekend, we just went to the COOP and got some sweatshirts and dripped in Crimson. We had one last farewell brunch and took a Sprinter back to NYC so that we could debrief together!
Of course we had some slices of Pinocchio’s pizza TO GO!
Harvard was such a unique place! But aside from the education, the friendships and connections I made at Harvard are some of the greatest gifts and biggest blessings I could have ever received. My girls and I are bonded for life by this beautiful, brilliant institution.
Here’s to many, many more years of laughter and lip smacks!!

*Going to this reunion made me feel OLD. I don’t know why. I feel young at heart! But there was a lot of salt and pepper hair.
It also made me think about how much there is to accomplish in the next 5 years. We’re all in our early 40’s, so still relatively young. By the next reunion, we’ll be a few years shy of 50. I just have SO much to do in the next 5 years, but I’m down for the challenge. Hope you’re with me for the ride.
