Happy Monday!
It’s been a minute since I’ve been back from my first time in Martha’s Vineyard (in August) and oh what a trip it was.
I’m still recovering from all the Lobster Rolls, Fried Shrimp, and Homemade Ice Cream, and back on my grind, preparing for New York Fashion Week. Let me tell you things don’t really seem to get easier as an entrepreneur, but still I rise….!
While on Martha’s Vineyard, I was able to escape, even if only for a moment, into its picturesque beauty.
Most people who go are committed to good vibes and looking good while doing so. Though I was not officially on assignment (and this was the closest thing I’ve come to a vacation in some time), I couldn’t help but capture some viral moments at White Parties, Awards receptions, and brunches.
In case you go to the Vineyard, here are 5 quick style tips I gleaned (please note I did not follow any of said rules):
- Wear flats
Most parties I attended were outside, on the grass. Many had very limited seating! Save yourself the foot ache! Find some cute flats–and wear them.
2. Wear Your Natural Hair
It is hot! I am currently growing out my hair so that I can achieve my perfect platinum pixie come for NYFW, so I was wearing a wig, but I SO wished I had rocked braids or a style that would have allowed my scalp to breathe. If you want to swim, dip, and dance, I’d suggest a natural ‘do. By day 3 my wig was slipping with wild abandon and I had no hairstylist to call (though that might change by next year, stay tuned).
3. Bring a fan
Please reference point 2 about the heat and bring an electric fan. You won’t regret it!
4. Wear Pieces that are Easy, Breezy, and Billowy
Again, reference to the heat. The mood is laid back and fabulous, so leave anything you’ll need shapewear for at home.
5. Bring Something White
For any majority black gathering, a white lewk is oh so necessary. You would think that after half stepping at Essence wearing a floral dress to a white party…
…I would have known better. Bring at least 1-3 all white outfits because there will ALWAYS be a time and place to wear it!
