Claire’s Life: Attending the Invisible Beauty Brunch with Kadeem Hardison, Marquis Phifer, and more in Hanifa’s Sky Dress

So while in LA, I’ve been out and about, meeting new fashionable people!

I was excited to be invited to a brunch to celebrate Invisible Beauty, a film about the impact activist Bethann Hardison has had on the fashion industry. Former model manager and model Bethann Hardison has held the industry’s feet to the fire about diversity and inclusion in terms of models on the runway and in magazines. Her film, which is in theaters now, documents her life and history with fantastic flourish:

The past week, I have gone to screenings of the film, and then attended a brunch hosted by Bethann’s son, Kadeem Hardison (of A Different World), attended by fashion disrupters like Marquis Phifer, Telsha Anderson, Marquise Miller, and more:

I heard ‘brunch’ and ‘rooftop,’ so decided to slip on a dress by black designer Hanifa, Femme LA shoes, and of course my mini Kelly bag.

Turns out I was slightly overdressed, but thankfully my friend Legendary Damon matched my energy (haha).

True story: I actually rented this dress from Zerina Akers’s showroom: The Show Must Go On. The brunch was at noon, I called them around 9am; they delivered the dress to me by 11am. I didn’t even know if it would fit, but it fit like a glove! And I got compliments on it all day.

Though a few seasons old, this dress is actually pretty iconic, and was featured in Hanifa’s first 3D show. Even though it’s not recent, a dress that features heaven/the sky on it is a classic piece that never goes out of style. I low-key want to keep it for my collection. But then again, once you wear it once, can you wear it again?
