What a year, what a year, what a year, what a mighty good year!
2015 seemed to be the moment when the stars aligned, and all the A-list superstars we’ve been writing about for years turned their gaze on us to show appreciation. I’m always BLOWN AWAY that our readership not only includes Bombers and Bombshells from around the world, but celebs as well!
Take a look at my top 5 moments of 2015.
1. Meeting Rihanna (for the second time)
Bad gal Riri! Robyn Fenty! We used to write about Rihanna so much that my boyfriend at the time asked if she was paying us (she wasn’t!).
This woman is a fashion icon, a Caribbean Queen, a risk taker, and a trendsetter. She was our Fashionista of the Year for at least 3 years before ceding her crown to her counterparts.
When I met her, she called me ‘clever’ and said she’s watched all my videos on Youtube (something Fashion Bomb readers can’t say for themselves, I’m sure!). She was super sweet and I want her on the cover of our 10th anniversary issue! Rih-Rih, call me!
2. Diddy Singing Happy Birthday to my Snapchat
Yes, that’s Diddy singing Happy Birthday to himself to my Snapchat. Meeting Diddy was another mind blowing moment of 2015, which started with the Revolt Music Conference.
Pierre and I went down there to provide the best coverage possible, and we delivered! Diddy FaceTimed me to show his appreciation.
I was blown away then, but to be invited to his intimate birthday dinner and serenaded was some NEXT LEVEL ISH! The experience was unforgettable, and I can’t wait to see how things develop in 2016!
3. Interviewing Kimora Lee Simmons
Interviewing and meeting Kimora Lee Simmons was another moment where I wanted to faint. Though Kimora has switched her focus to family in recent years, I still view her as the fashion doyenne and Queen of Fabulosity.
When I first started Fashion Bomb Daily in 2006, Kimora Lee was IT. Her Baby Phat shows were the only shows that mattered to me during New York Fashion Week. I read her book, Fabulosity, from cover to cover. Her tome really was my blueprint on “How to Break Into” the Fashion World.
Kimora is smart, savvy, and strategic. We can all learn a few things from her! And I’m glad I got the chance to finally meet her after all these years!
I know I’m going on and on, but here’s a true story: I wrote Kimora a typed letter around 2008, asking to meet her to tell her how much she inspired me. Instead of a meeting, she sent me an autographed picture that said “Stay Fabulous!” I was disappointed, but held on to that picture. Who woulda thought I’d get to meet her in her atelier and that she’d be telling me she’s a big fan!
Wild!
4. Sailing with Taraji P. Henson
Our annual trip to BVI is always Bomb, and this time was even more special with Taraji P. Henson. We sailed, we chatted, and she offered loads of great advice (i.e. don’t do Reality TV).
Taraji is good people. She’s fun and down to earth, and I wish her nothing but continued success!
5.Cocktails with Claire Lagos
Though all of my Cocktails with Claire events this year were ahmazing, my first international edition was something to write home about.
Though it wasn’t as packed as the domestic venues, it was fun and vibrant, and the Bombshells abroad showed lots of love.
It was a good kick off to 2016, where I will continue to expand the Fashion Bomb Daily and the Claire Sulmers brand on a global scale.
FBD’s 10th year is when I plan to really go hard! I think a lot of times, entrepreneurs can be fearful of evolving and developing something BIG. For so long, I plodded along, calling FBD a hobby when it is in fact a business. 2015 was the year I started to take my business seriously and 2016 will be the moment when I take my ideas seriously.
You have but one life: live it to the fullest.
Seize the day and walk into your destiny.
There’s no other way.
Happy Holidays!
