Happy Tuesday!
It’s been a busy few days, and I’m just getting back on the saddle! A day after Essence Black Women in Hollywood, I was honored to receive the Fashion Impact Award at the International Women of Power luncheon, hosted by the fabulous Koshie Mills.
Madame Koshie assembled a wonderful group of women, who have all made waves in their respective industries, and brought them together for a day full of fellowship and fun.
The spirit and energy in the room was high, and the love was palpable, so much so that I broke down in tears while receiving my Fashion Impact Award.
I’ll be honest: while we all see the pretty pictures, I deal with loads of rejection on a daily basis. When you have big dreams, you’re going to ask for a lot, and the answer isn’t always yes. With the fashion industry, even after all I’ve put in to my craft, I still haven’t broke into the ‘upper echelons’ and it can get hard, especially when you feel as if you’ve done everything ‘right’ within your power to gain access. So to be in a room overflowing with love and acceptance was overwhelming in the best way possible. I was filled with joy and am grateful to all the women I met and to those who offered me prayers and blessings, including Michelle Williams, Bozoma Saint John, and Nicole Ari Parker.
To receive an award: Wow, what a wonderful feeling!
I am motivated to keep going no matter what, and I hope you are too.
Thank you to all you out there who may be reading. Your support is appreciated and does not go unnoticed.
And if you ever feel down, find a circle of women who will encourage you, lift you up, and pray for the best.
Remember, when Jesus says YES, nobody can say No.
