Though we all understand death as a concept, it still comes as a shocker when confronted with it in real life. Perhaps we soothe our psyche by believing that things will always be the same when in fact, nothing stays the same. We are in a constant state of flux. As we get older, babies are born and the cycle starts anew.
I type this as I struggle to come to terms with an Aunt who is sick. Illness has ravaged her body and our family is on edge waiting for one of the pillars of our family to pass. We know she is in pain but all of us would prefer her to stay with us versus rest in peace. Selfish? Yes, but we are human.
As my family wraps their minds around this impending death, the only way I can deal with it is to make peace with it. Nothing stays the same and change is the only constant. When something is over, reflect back on the good times and thank GOD you were able to spend the time you did together.
In the meantime, live out loud and electrically.
