The Bomb Life: Harlem’s Fashion Row’s Black History Month Dinner with Dapper Dan, Teri Agins, Misa Hylton, and More!

Happy Tuesday!
NYFW starts on Thursday (and I’m not prepared at all, but that’s another post!), but the pre NYFW activities kicked off last night with a Black History Month dinner at Red Rooster, hosted by Harlem’s Fashion Row.

Guests noshed on yummy salmon, chicken, and greens while listening to a talk on the future of fashion featuring Dapper Dan and Teri Agins.

Hip Hop style icon Dapper Dan made a name for himself in the 80’s, printing the monograms of luxury houses on leather pieces beloved by rappers and trendsetters. He was sued so many times for copyright infringement that he had to shut down his famous atelier, but in a fantastic twist of fate, Gucci copied one of his designs for their Resort 2018 show. After being made to realize their error (gotta love the internet), Gucci hired Dan as a collaborator and have funded his new atelier in Harlem. Dan was ahead of his time, and he encouraged young designers to stay at the forefront of new technology and design developments.

After the talk, I made a Beeline for Mr. Dan. I’ve written about him many times, but never met him. I was honored!

We chatted and planned for a visit to his atelier.

Afterwards, I grabbed pix with the luminaries in the room, including Harriette Cole, Michaela Angela Davis, Misa Hylton, Bethann Hardison, Avon Dorsey, and more. The Dress code called for all black, and we did it with style!

It was a beautiful gathering! A wonderful start to Fashion Week and a grand way to kick off the month.
FashionBombDaily.com will be live again in just a few days. Stay tuned. Here comes the BOOM.
Love & Light,
