The Bomb Life 101: The Importance of Self Discipline + How are You Standing In Your Own Way?

Happy Monday, Folks!
So today, I woke up at 5:30 (why is 5 am so difficult?!?). Anywhoo, I’ve started to develop a routine for my early morning jaunts, which usually begins with me taking a long walk/jog outside so that I’m not tempted to go right back to sleep!

When I first started waking up super early (not even a month ago), I’d listen to a little Deepak Chopra, then turn on some Yo Gotti and turn up! But today I decided to listen to a motivational speaker called Brian Tracy about Setting and Accomplishing Goals.

I was able to cull so much from his video, but what stood out to me the most was his rule about Self Discipline. He said that 80% of the time, we are standing in our own way. And that most people plan in advance, delegate, and are very strategic about what they want to accomplish.

I am very disciplined in some ways: Before implementing the 5am rule, I used to wake up at 8 or 9am, and go straight to my computer and work until the afternoon. Sometimes I’d be so consumed, I’d forget to eat. That discipline has resulted in a good amount of success in the blog world, but now, I want more.

One of my biggest weaknesses? Budget. I spend a lot of money. I used to spend A LOT on clothes. I’ve dialed it back, and have begun paying more attention to how I spend my money. This month, I’ve been updating my budget day to day and realized that aside from clothes, I spend the most on food and cabs!

Through the grace of GOD, I became an Uber ambassador (ow!), so use this big platform I’ve created for Uber credits each month. And now my next step is to hit up Seamless and DoorDash to see about doing the same. You have to start where you are and figure out how you can use what you have to make a change in whatever area of your life you want to improve on.

I, of course, have other vices and bad habits. I could work out more. I could drink less. And at the end of the day: why not? If working out more and saying no to Cocktails means increased productivity, clarity, etc, why not just do it?

I was fighting to get out of bed today after getting a little too turned up on Saturday (as I get older, it takes me longer and longer to recover from drinking). But as I pressed snooze, I realized that I was fighting myself and standing in the way of what I want to accomplish.
It’s hard to be disciplined. It’s hard to stop doing what you want to do, all the time (I mean, who wouldn’t love to eat out all the time, drink wine, and shop. Sounds fabulous, no?). Everything in moderation. But until you are where you need to be, you have to be pretty darn self disciplined. I’m kinda mad I’m just figuring this out now!

At any rate, what’s standing in your way? How are you stopping yourself from living the life of your dreams? And what can you do, today, to fix it?
I try not to be hard on myself when I wake up at 5:30/6 instead of 5 on the dot. Breaking bad habits is hard. But you have to start if you want to go further or achieve your highest potential.
Stop fighting against yourself. Do what you need to do go to get to where you want to go.
Love + Light,
Claire
