Today, I thought I’d just say what was on my heart. I hesitated to even write this because I NEVER want to seem like I’m complaining and I KNOW that I am tremendously blessed (yes!). When one thinks of success, they just think of the end goal…the robust bank account, great threads, fabulous family, friends, and happiness. Never does one think of the pitfalls that come along with it. Let’s call them the side effects.
I created Fashion Bomb Daily out of love and motivate my team to do their best work to serve and entertain our readers. It brings me joy to wake up at 4am (as I sometimes do) and dig up what someone is wearing. I honestly, truly love fashion and celeb stye! But with growth, we have some unexpected thorns.
Sometimes we’re asked to take pictures down. Sometimes we’re accused of posting bad pictures due to some unknown vendetta (there are no vendettas by the way). Sometimes we’re asked to turn off comments. Sometimes we’re raked over the coals in comments. We’ve had people post shady shit about us, block us, I mean….the list goes on. When it all started off as just fun!
Of course these are all good problems to have, right? I am absolutely entertained by our comments and still get lots of joy from the job. I remember hearing that Biggie x Puffy song Mo Money, Mo Problems and thinking, “They’re crazy! They have lots of money! What problems could they have?” And while I’d certainly love to have more money than none, the more success you have brings more critical eyeballs. Not everyone operates out of love…and you sometimes have to deal with them. Sometimes people don’t play nice on the playground, but you’re in the game now and can’t turn back.
My response to all of it is to just take it in stride and know that when you are being met with (temporary) adversity, smile bright because it’s simply a sign that you are going places.
Sadly, there is no smooth ride. So instead of bristle at the thought of confrontation or drama, learn how to deal with it. Just deal with it. I’m not confrontational AT ALL and would rather avoid a conflict than deal with it, but sometimes you have to grow a pair and meet someone head on. If you want to move up, you have to learn how to deal, diffuse any negativity, and sail on.
