Keep Learning, Keep Growing: Lessons from Runyon Canyon and the 2017 MTV VMAs

Hey y’all!
For my last day in LA, I decided to visit Runyon Canyon just one last time.

If you’ve been following me on Snap (and it you’re not, get it together!), you’d know that I’ve been doing my best to tear up the trail since I’ve been here (I’m still on my 30 days of fitness kick!). My first time at the Runyon Canyon, I took the easy trail. The 2nd time, I challenged myself with the harder trail and almost passed out/rolled down the hill.

Hiking Runyon can be symbolic for so many things in life. Most people take the easy trail; a select few opt for the harder uphill battle. There are moments when the terrain seems rocky; there are moments when you feel as if you will meet your death or die of thirst. But if you push yourself just a little harder, you can make it to the top.

As for me, I felt like quitting the first time I tried the harder trail. I was about to turn around, but retracing my steps would have been more difficult that continuing to push and keep going. When I was lost, a kind young woman guided me to the right place. Because of her kindness, I was able to take on the trail myself the next round. And what I thought would kill me the first time was actually became easy with practice.

How this relates to other areas of life? I attended the MTV VMAs for the first time. I was lost for about an hour when I arrived, walking around the forum in Christian Louboutin booties until the heel literally disintegrated. When I finally found the press entrance, I was in the wrong place, but someone guided me to the correct spot. And while I was there, I did my best. Could I have done better? Sure. But all things come with time and practice.

I might sound like a broken record at this point, but I can tell you two lessons I gleaned from recent experiences. 1. Don’t be afraid to challenge yourself and try something new. You might get lost. You might feel distraught. Keep your eye on the prize. And know that if you need it, it’s ok to ask for help and guidance.

2. If you want to be great, you have to go on the road less traveled. Not a lot of people do it because it’s hard! Push yourself past your comfort zone and know that if you didn’t get it 100% right the first time, you will be armed with the knowledge the 2nd time around to complete the job easily.

Anywho, my flight is in a few hours, so I must skidaddle back to NYC.
NYFW is next week (oh boy). Stay tuned for moments from NYFW. Can’t wait!
Love & Light,

*For the MTV Awards, I wore a Sergio Hudson dress and Christian Louboutin booties that need a new heel!
