Claire Query: Walker’s Apothecary Skincare Products
By Claire

@MissHilary_Banks hit me up on Instagram, saying, “Claire you should post your skin care essentials. Your skin always looks so radiant!”
Well, thank you!
I must admit, people ask me this question all the time. Last time I answered, I was using a pretty harsh combination of a Clarisonic brush, Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Wash, and Apple Cider Vinegar! And while I do still drink a mixture of Apple Cider Vinegar and water on occasion (it’s good for digestion and has been linked to weight loss), I found my old skincare regimen left me with break outs and dryness.
Shalea Walker, who regularly does my makeup, is also an aesthetician. She noticed my skin troubles, and suggested I use her paraben free, natural products.
She started me off with her travel kit (retail $65).

And I was hooked! I can honestly say I haven’t had a significant breakout since I started using her skincare system.
The cream cleanser ($22) is new for me, because I grew up on Neutrogena foaming face wash, and typically associate suds with squeaky clean pores! Still, the Sandalwood Ginger Gentle Cleansing Cream manages to wipe off most if not all of my makeup, leaving my skin clean and clear.

I usually follow up the cleanser with the Rose Geranium Toner ($16). Y’all. This stuff smells so good. Though I typically use it post cleansing, I think it’s a good thing to spritz on your face throughout the day, and Shalea sometimes ‘sets’ my makeup with this spray when she’s done with my face.

Lastly, we all need a moisturizer. The super moisturizing serum ($36) is the truth. Apparently it has high levels of anti-oxidants and concentrated botanicals meant to protect and nourish the skin.

So there you have it!
My new skin regimen. And as long as I get fewer breakouts, Shalea Walker will have a customer for life.
In addition to the products, I’ve been told that getting facials once a month are great for you. I had one when I was down in Miami, and might start that routine now that it’s the New Year. I’ll let you know where I end up getting regular facials in New York!
But until then, if you want to see how Shalea’s products work on your skin, try her Travel Kits as an introduction. I personally use the set for Dry skin, but there is an option if you consider your skin oily.
Check it out here, and let me know how it works for you!

Hmm I may have to try the oily skin one. Thanks!

I have a Clarsonic and noticed more breakouts when I started to use it. So now I use it once every other week or once a month for deep cleansing/exfoliating. I stop having frequent breakouts.

I don’t think that thing was made for everyday use for us acne prone skin ladies…

Thanks for sharing. You are beautiful always

Neutrogena products are SO BAD for your skin. sooo harsh. They made me get a rash last year. I think after a certain age, you can’t use that stuff anymore bc you don’t have adolescent skin which is more oily and prone to breakouts.

also, fragrance-free products… that’s my mantra. Unless it’s natural organic cold-pressed coconut oil or essential oils, NEVER put anything on your face that has a smell. Rash waiting to happen.

Thanks so much for this post, Claire! I love all of your blogs and frequent them daily :) I’m purchasing the travel kit today but wonder why you chose the set for dry skin as opposed to the one for oily/acne skin if you’re actually trying to control your breakouts?

  6. Claire says:

@BrendaLeeJohnson I’ve never really had acne…and I think I was using Neutrogena just because it seemed like a good preventative measure.
Perhaps my skin was actually classified as ‘dry’ all along. Shalea took a look at my skin and prescribed the system, and turns out it works. I guess I was misdiagnosing my skin all along.

The clarisonic should be used every other day. If you have acne prone skin you should be using that specific brush
