Happy Sunday, Bombers and Bombshells!
I just landed back in dreary, rainy New York City after 24 hours in foggy Chicago. I spoke on a panel for an event called Building Beyond Beliefs, and signed books (thank you to everyone who came and purchased one!!!). This week is all about preparing to deliver a Keynote Speech at an event called the SuperBold conference in Houston on February 3rd.
I’ve delivered a keynote before, but the stakes seem to be getting higher. While talking over my speech with my acting coach, we came up with the theme of me having a special power: turning a NO into a YES.
Though I tend to mention me going to Harvard as a footnote to my life, I forget that when I wanted to go to an Ivy League school, everyone from my guidance counselor to some friends didn’t think I had what it took. Guess what? I worked hard, turned in extra essays, networked, and got in–early. Then I graduated with honors.
When I was shown the door at so many different fashion events and jobs, I made my way in. I crashed for a long time, then I went ahead and created my own job!
Now, I’m embarking on this new chapter. I’m an author. A public speaker. Am I the best? Probably not! But I’m gonna work until I am. Settle in for a yearlong blitz for The Bomb Life!
I’m actually not special, and my conjuring capabilities are remedial at best. I guess my ‘magic’ lies in seeing something I want, and going for it. Seeking advice and insight from those who have been there before…and taking it. Ignoring the hate, negativity, and the naysayers, and going for it anyway. It really is all an equation, like math. Just like 2+2 = 4, Hard Work + Seeking Advice + Following Instructions = Getting Whatever You Want the Most Out of Life.
