Go Where You Are Celebrated, Not Just Tolerated: New York Fashion Week Spring 2019 Day 1 in a Kimberly Goldson Suit and Gucci Crystal Sandals

Happy Saturday, from Las Vegas!
Last week, I popped into Fashion Week for just one day to attend the Discount Universe show. Inspired by Harlem’s Fashion Row, I wore one of the featured designers, Kimberly Goldson, along with Gucci Accessories:

I was recently quoted in New York Magazine’s the Cut, thrusting a spotlight on the lack of black bloggers on the front row during Fashion Week:

I’ve been going to Fashion Weeks internationally since 2007, and it always seems to be the same song.

This season has changed for the better, for sure! Many brands like Pyer Moss, Taoray Wang, ICY, and The Blonds, have blessed me with front row seats. For others, there still doesn’t seem to be enough room for me: but that’s ok.

Perhaps in my mature age, I’ve realized this: if people don’t want you there, don’t go. If you write about a brand nonstop, and get no reciprocity…like any abusive relationship, walk away. For a long time, I thought that if I wrote show reviews, published articles on a brand constantly, wore the brand, and sent links, that would be enough. It’s not.

So instead of being at Fashion Week, I am at a conference called Whose the Bawse. I am speaking on a panel in 25 minutes. I was flown out here and put up in a hotel. Doesn’t that sounds like a brand that celebrates you?

Go where you are celebrated, not just tolerated.
